Psalms 17:13

Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:

The cry is a plea for rescue from worldly people whose whole share lies in this present life. It asks for divine rising to frustrate and overthrow the wicked oppressor and to free the soul from his power. Yet its reach extends far beyond immediate trouble and turns decisively away from every earthly attraction. It looks forward to seeing the divine face in righteousness and to full satisfaction upon awakening in that likeness.
