As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
The verse is the confident hope of the righteous to stand in righteousness and look upon God face to face, and to be made fully satisfied in His presence. That beholding is bound to righteousness and to awakening in His likeness, so that satisfaction comes from being with Him and being like Him. Its hope reaches beyond this present life and beyond earthly attractions to that future seeing of God.
The awakening is rising from death, which is rest and not the end of hope. At that time the faithful are restored to life in God's presence to behold Him. Then they awake bearing His likeness, made like Him, and are satisfied by seeing His likeness.
That likeness of Christ is formed now in the one who gives self to the Holy Spirit to be guided and worked by Him. The soul's deepest need is met by seeing Jesus and contemplating the perfection of His character and mission and of His love and grace and truth. To awake satisfied with that likeness is to find complete satisfaction in Christ, and as the soul beholds Him love for the world and worship of earthly treasure come to an end.
