Psalms 17:7
Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
This is a humble prayer of faith that commits the case to the Lord and calls upon Christ for protection. It is the cry Christ longed to hear from Israel and from all who put their trust in Him. It asks God to hear prayer, to show His marvellous lovingkindness, and to save by His right hand those who trust in Him from those that rise up against them.
In answer God inclines His ear and hears, cares for those who trust Him, judges in truth and righteousness, and gives strength from above. Together with its companion pleas to be kept as the apple of the eye and to be hidden under the shadow of His wings, it expresses the response of poor, defenseless, dependent souls to Christ's invitation to be gathered under His mediatorial wings. Coming to Him in this way means coming to be accepted, warmed, kept safe, defended, and protected, finding warmth and safety under His wings.
The plea is joined to the plea to hold up one's goings in His paths. It reveals Christ's watchful care for all who trust in Him, gathering them under His mediatorial wings as a hen gathers and defends her chickens even at the cost of her own life. There is assurance of acceptance and protection to all who heed His warning call and reach His wings.
