Psalms 18:46

The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

The verse declares that the Lord lives, and blesses him as the speaker's rock and exalts him as the God of salvation. David sang it to commemorate God's deliverance of the nation from dangers that threatened it with destruction. Through providence those very dangers became the means by which Israel rose to great power.

Its affirmation that the Lord lives assures that he reigns. It assures also that he hears and answers prayer. As the living rock and saving God he is the source of strength and deliverance. He is the believer's Helper, Physician, and Saviour. He is the sure rock and source of salvation with abundant resources.

The verse therefore calls for praise and exaltation. It calls for thankful hearts and courage amid great needs. It calls for looking up, being courageous, and trusting wholly in him. That assurance comforts in sickness and disappointment, serving to encourage a recovering father. It gives comfort even when Mary was not improving as hoped and prayed.
