Psalms 18:49

Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

David gives thanks to the Lord among the nations and sings praises to His name because He delivered him from his enemies and set peoples in subjection under him. His thanksgiving is not private but public, offered openly among surrounding nations in acknowledgment of divine rescue and dominion granted over adversaries. That praise stands as a memorial of the deliverances by which Israel was lifted to greatness.

The same words call God's people to confess His name and sing His praise among the Gentiles, even before those who do not keep His commandments. They are to let their good works be seen and let the light of divine truth shine, so that observers are led to glorify God. Such witness may become the means of bringing salvation to those who behold it.
