Psalms 2:12

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

The Son is Jesus Christ, begotten of God and set by God as King upon His holy hill of Zion, given the heathen for His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession, who breaks opposing powers with a rod of iron and dashes them in pieces like a potter's vessel. The verse is God speaking to kings and judges and rulers of the earth and to every person in a position of trust as He sets things in order against Satan's dominion. It commands them to become wise and teachable, to serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling, and to honor and submit to the Son with loyal submission.

Rejecting Him brings His anger and ruin, perishing from the way when His wrath is kindled but a little. God in heaven responds to opposers of Christ by laughing and holding them in derision, speaking to them in wrath and vexing them in sore displeasure. The warning was fulfilled at Christ's resurrection, when the power of priests, kings and rulers who set themselves against Him proved impotent and they could not carry out their will upon Him.

Christ had been slain for the sins of the world, and the prince of darkness with his apostate army would have kept the tomb holding the Son of God sealed forever, but a heavenly host guarded the sepulcher and the God of heaven followed by angels walked around the tomb with majestic and terrible tread. God and angels had been unseen witnesses of all that took place in the mock trial in the judgment hall, where every action was noted and every taunt recorded. Blessing belongs to all who put their trust in Him.

The One trusted is Christ, the living Rock and the church's true foundation, and no human being is a dependable source of guidance, for even those who seem strongest fail unless they rely on Christ. Kissing the Son means repenting now for the soul's sake, and the verse commands impenitent sinners to submit to Christ at once and venture not one step further in impenitence. Urgency is required because every day in sin grieves God and the last day of mercy is just upon them, when God will soon rise up out of His place to punish the world for iniquity, when the tempests of His wrath that have been gathering burst with pitiless fury and the earth discloses her blood and no more covers her slain.

Obeying the call requires doing duty by rebuking and expelling wrong so truth and righteousness gain ground and the Holy Spirit gains room to work victory beginning in the heart.
