Joab Sets the Gold Crown on David's Headby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 21:3

For thou preventest him with the blessings of goodness: thou settest a crown of pure gold on his head.

The form is Hebrew poetic parallelism, in which the second line restates the thought of the first in different words to press the point of divine goodness by picturing it as a crown of pure gold placed on the king's head. God goes before the king and surrounds his way with abundant blessings of goodness, setting a crown of pure gold upon his head as the expression of divine favor and royal honor bestowed by God.
As one of David's songs the psalm is instructive, devout, helpful and worshipful, giving lessons of trust and confidence in God and revealing something of Christ's experience. Taken with verses 1-7, it shows the Father hearing Christ's prayer and answering Him with life and honor after His agony and death. The setting of a crown of pure gold on the king's head is a promise fulfilled when Jesus comes again as King, crowned in glory.
