Psalms 21:6

For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

Psalm 21:6 stands in the first book of the Psalms among Psalms 18 through 41, grouped with Psalms 21-25. As one of David's songs, it teaches trust and confidence in God and celebrates the triumph of good. It is one of the wonderful songs of human experience to be brought by faith into personal experience for courage and help in daily tasks and trials.

It presents the king as made blessed by God for ever and filled with exceeding joy by God's presence, showing that God's favor brings enduring blessing and gladness. In the context of Psalm 21:1-7, it shows how the Father answered Christ's prayer by making him blessed forever and joyful in his presence, an answer fulfilled when Christ was raised from the dead never again to be subject to death. In light of Hebrews 1:9, it illustrates the Son's joy and exaltation above his companions.

It shows that the Lord's favor and presence make his people exceedingly glad. Solomon knew that the Lord loved him and associated the Lord's appearance to him with this gladness, and he responded by asking for an understanding heart to judge God's people.
