Psalms 25:10

All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

All of the Lord's paths and dealings toward those who keep His covenant and His testimonies are mercy and truth and faithfulness. This promise stands with His teaching sinners, guiding the meek and showing them His covenant, so keeping the covenant belongs with receiving His guidance and learning from His example. Not one good thing He has spoken fails, and His sure promises give grace suited to need, so those who seek to obey in His strength can trust His merciful dealings even in discouragement. Keeping His covenant means being humble, contrite, obedient and faithful, converted to known truth and practicing it from the heart in love rather than by compulsion. Those He has helped in love and compassion prove His word never fails, so they should openly declare His faithfulness and carry His truth to others in that same merciful and true spirit, never in a harsh and condemnatory way.

Mercy and Truth Promised

All the paths of the Lord, His ways and dealings and purposes toward those who keep His covenant and His testimonies, are mercy and truth and faithfulness. Every path He takes is marked by mercy and truth for such keepers, and those who seek to obey and rely on His strength can trust that His dealings with them are merciful and true. The promise belongs with the Lord teaching sinners in the way, guiding the meek in judgment and teaching them His way, and showing His covenant to those who fear Him, so that keeping the covenant belongs with receiving His guidance. Keeping the covenant and testimonies in this way means respecting and obeying God's commands with humility, learning from Christ and forming character by His example. Loyalty to His law is bound up with this mercy and truth, for its precepts guide family life and the formation of character.

Not one good thing He has spoken fails and His promises are sure, and those whom He in love and pity and compassion has helped so mercifully have proof that His word never fails. He gives grace suited to the needs of those who walk in truth, bringing peace and courage and confidence, with mercy and truth promised to the contrite and obedient. Those who seek to obey His law can trust this promise even when they face discouragement, because God supplies the strength they need and they may leave the results to Him. Through trial believers learn from experience that even when their own errors and misunderstanding bring perplexity and sorrow, His loving purposes have continued to unfold. That trial and sorrow caused by misunderstanding can serve His loving purpose and lead them toward needed correction.

Keeping Covenant Faithfully

The promise belongs to the humble in heart, the contrite, the obedient and faithful, those who fear the Lord and trust in Him. Keeping His covenant and testimonies means respecting and obeying His commands with humility and walking in truth according to the light received. Mercy and truth mark His ways toward such keepers of His covenant, while a course of disobedience and rebellion faces His just anger.

Receiving this mercy and truth comes by trusting in the Lord and doing good, delighting in Him, committing the way to Him, and resting in Him and waiting patiently for Him. It comes by trusting with all the heart without leaning to human understanding, acknowledging Him in all ways so that He directs the paths, and hearkening to His commandments as He teaches to profit and leads in the way to go. The meek who fear Him are guided in judgment, taught His way, and shown His covenant. This trust excludes distrusting God by binding up with worldlings in secret societies.

Keeping His covenant means being converted to known truth and receiving and practicing it from the heart and from love rather than compulsion. It means choosing the path of obedience rather than disobedience from the heart, accepting the cross the truth involves even when it costs great effort. The soul is of value with God and heaven is worth everything.

The verse warns to follow the Lord's way rather than continue on a destructive course. Every path He takes is marked by mercy and truth for those who keep His covenant and His testimonies. This assurance stands alongside the blessing of forgiven sin, for outward washing without a clean heart does not make one pure.

Reflecting Mercy and Truth

All the Lord's dealings with those who keep His covenant and His testimonies are mercy and truth, and not one good thing He has spoken fails, for His promises are sure. Those whom He in love and pity and compassion has helped so mercifully have proof that His word never fails. They should therefore declare His faithfulness openly with thanksgiving and praise, opening their lips to speak words of hope and courage and refreshment to fellow workers and to others. In doing so they pass on to others the grace they themselves have received, instead of speaking evil surmising and evil feeling and faultfinding against one another.

Because He deals in mercy and truth, His people must be Christians in every sense of the word. They are to dig deep in His Word like a miner seeking ore instead of skimming the surface, and thus bear a powerful witness for the truth. Those who bear His vessels must themselves be clean, converted, and blessed in the belief of the truth, seeking new conversion especially when in positions of trust. They are to guard His sacred principles without turning aside and give no aid to what opposes truth, because determined efforts are made to break down the fortifications of truth.

Those who bear His truth must themselves walk in that same mercy and truth and carry it to others in a merciful and true spirit. They are to offer its beautiful fruit and rich treasures with courteous and pleasant words and manner, presenting its desirability so that hearers will accept it. It must never be presented in a fierce, harsh, forbidding and condemnatory way, as if it were a scourge, for such a spirit mars its influence and turns people away from it. Unless converted and blessed in the belief of the truth, with the heart filled with converting grace, one should not stand before the people with it.
