Psalms 25:17

The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.

The troubles of the heart that have grown large are not to be met with a light or hasty glance, but with deep searching for meaning as thorough as a miner digging for hidden ore and refusing merely to skim the surface. Such earnest digging belongs to being a Christian in every sense of the word. It is the way believers are made able to bear a powerful witness for truth. It is also the way they are kept from giving any aid or strength to the deceptive science of Satan.

Those who carry positions of trust have special need of this experience as part of being born again. The prayer to be brought out of enlarged distresses applies directly to the work of guarding God's sacred principles. That guarding is urgent because Satan is determined to break down the fortifications of truth.
