I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers.
The verse is a fixed resolve not to sit or enter into close joining with vain persons, understood as those who are frivolous and worldly in spirit and practice. It is equally a resolve not to go in with dissemblers, meaning refusal to associate intimately with people who are false and deceitful. Turning from vanity and worldly ways is made possible and effective by beholding the character of Christ, which exposes what is empty and unworthy. Students especially are thereby enabled to recognize what is frivolous and unworthy and to reject it rather than seeking the close company of the vain and deceitful. The resolve therefore requires not imitating such vain conduct and instead choosing companions whose influence draws toward wisdom and godliness.
