Psalms 27:3
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
The verse declares a complete confidence that leaves the heart unafraid even when a hostile army encamps against the believer and war rises against him. The confidence rests on God hiding His people secretly in His pavilion and tabernacle in the day of trouble, setting them upon a rock and lifting their head above their enemies.
The opposing foes are the Lord's own enemies, and though strong and artful they will be vanquished by the Captain of salvation who leads, while the Sun of Righteousness disperses obstacles as the sun disperses clouds. The verse applies to passing through an enemy's land where foes on every side hate God and hinder advancement. After asking God for light and instruction, those willing to follow Him can trust Him to guide and lead them. Confidence comes by cheering the soul with the unseen and by God's presence as security, treasure, glory and joy for duty and trial. Remembering that Jesus is close by one's side takes away fear, calling for good courage, doing well what can be done, not gathering responsibilities that cannot be borne, and holding to Jesus without withdrawing the hand from His.
