Psalms 30:3

O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

O LORD has brought up the soul from the grave and kept alive the one who would otherwise have gone down to the pit, rescuing the psalmist from mortal danger and death and preserving his life by healing him. That rescue came in answer to his cry to God, who lifted him up when he called. In lifting him up God did not let his foes rejoice over him, nor his enemies triumph in his fall.

Such deliverance and healing call for praise and thanksgiving, expressed in a cheerful testimony to God's keeping power. A daily consecrated life shows itself in gratitude and thank offerings, in extolling God, in singing to Him, and in giving thanks at the remembrance of His holiness. This is the bright and cheerful side of religion, set against mourning, complaining, depression, and low spirits. Trials are to be accepted as educators that strengthen faith and produce joy to the honor and glory of God.
