Psalms 30:5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
God's anger lasts only for a moment, while in His favor is life. Weeping may endure through the night, but joy comes in the morning, for He turns mourning into gladness and gives reason for lasting praise.
The night of weeping was the disciples facing Christ's death in uncertainty, anguish and despair, in the deepest trial, when to human sight all was lost. The morning of joy came when they met the risen Saviour, saw the wounds in His hands and feet, received His blessing at Bethany with His promise to be with them always, and received power from on high at Pentecost. That morning also meant listening to His words with burning hearts on resurrection day, seeing the wound in His head, receiving the commission to preach the gospel, receiving the promised Comforter, and knowing the conscious presence of the ascended Lord.
In that change sorrow gives place to perfect assurance, unclouded faith, gladness and triumph, proving God's word triumphantly accomplished and that His people will never be put to shame. Therefore even a pathway through sacrifice and martyrdom becomes fellowship in His sufferings and sharing in His joy of bringing many sons to glory, ending with the crown of righteousness at His coming. In that joy His workers would not exchange their ministry for an earthly throne. That outcome is joy unspeakable and an eternal weight of glory, beside which momentary light affliction is not worthy to be compared.
