Psalms 30:8

I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.

Psalm 30:8 stands among Psalms 1–11 as language fitted to every kind of human experience, lifting the discouraged, strengthening those under trial, comforting those in grief, and warning against sin. To cry to the Lord and make supplication to Him is to trust in Him whose word is tried. The psalm itself moves from a sense of great need toward triumph and confidence in God, showing that prayerful appeal to Him can end in trust. To all who so trust, He is a shield and a sure friend, giving safety and protection from the sad effects of sin in this world and its dreadful consequences hereafter.
