Psalms 31:14

But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

Psalm 31:14 belongs to a collection of David's songs that teaches trust and confidence in God. It expresses trust in the Lord and a personal claim that he is one's own God. The reliance it expresses is on God rather than on human strength. It shows David trusting God and claiming him as his own God in the midst of trouble and with imperfect faith.

Though he at times feared that God had forgotten him, God heard his prayers even when his faith was weak, so the verse gives confidence that God will hear those who trust him even when their faith has not been steady. It shows the faithful trusting in the Lord when affliction comes and confessing him as their God, resting in the belief that God permits no real harm to those who rely on him and can use even the evil actions of others for their good. As part of the prophecies portraying the inner experience of Christ, it shows his trust in God in the midst of suffering and life-and-death struggle. Its surrounding declaration that one's times are in God's hand recognizes God's sovereignty over time, and keeping the seventh day honors that sovereignty and remembers his creative power. It serves as an affirmation of sincere confidence in God amid the difficulties of gospel work, joined to the assurance that one's times are in God's hand.
