Psalms 31:3

For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

The verse is a prayer of confiding trust to Jesus in which each believer lays hold of Him and places the hand in His hand, asking Him to lead and guide. It is the steady language of the heart, keeping the heart fixed on Jesus Christ in continual dependence. Praying it means hearing His voice, for God still speaks to the children of men in many different ways.

Those who trust in God in this way will not be allowed to be overcome by Satan even as his power increases and he works with deceit against those who perish. Committing the keeping of the soul to Christ brings His keeping against that day, protection against Satan's devices, and shelter from the storms of temptation. Fighting in the strength of the Mighty One is to be on the side that will win at last and conquer in the end.

This continual dependence keeps God's chosen vessels standing forth unto honor and succeeding while foes are constantly around them. This confiding trust is the preparation needed for the greatest work and most perilous scenes ahead and for the deadly conflict that must be met, with the assurance of conquering in the end.
