Psalms 31:8

And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.

God does not shut His people up into the hand of the enemy, but sets their feet in a wide, free, spacious and secure place. That large room is received through trusting Him even when sick and weak. Such trust does present duty where one is without complaining, knowing one is in the Lord's hands and that He is working for good through suffering and weakness. It also looks to Jesus as spiritual strength, while His grace works within to perfect His image, develop His own Spirit, and increase capacity to work with Him.

The same deliverance rescues from discouragement and burdening darkness, for God by His presence gives light so that His people do not walk in darkness. Living, active faith breaks through that darkness and lets the light of His glory shine. For His work, the promise holds because the work is the Lord's: His people can trust Him to bring it to pass and to give room for His own purposes to be accomplished even when they now seem cramped and hedged in.
