Psalms 32:6

For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

This is part of David's song of release after he confessed his sin and received forgiveness. For this reason every one who is godly is to pray unto God in a time when He may be found. That call to pray while He may be found is for all who are godly, and for anyone who turns to Him.

The floods of great waters picture great troubles and great dangers. They shall not come nigh unto him and shall not overwhelm those who turn to God in confession and trust. This confidence follows confessing sin and receiving forgiveness. It belongs to the experience of confessing sin, receiving forgiveness, and finding the Lord as a place of safety and deliverance.

God Himself is a hiding place and place of safety who preserves from trouble and delivers. He compasses about with songs of deliverance, and He instructs and teaches in the way to go while guiding with His eye. The verse is therefore a firm comfort against accusations that revive past sins after God has forgiven them.

The verse belongs to the true and safe instruction of the Lord. Study of it in the Word helps to a right understanding of the higher education the Lord regards as higher education, in contrast to the so-called higher education of the world. Studied in this way, it helps those who wish to understand the way of the Lord. It encourages them to proclaim to others the exalted privilege of expressing the divine image in thought and deed, giving no encouragement for self to manifest itself in large proportions, but giving encouragement that the Lord will impress and refine and purify the heart and mind and life.

The verse is a promise giving assurance from God. When God's peculiar people take heed to His words they enter a blessed, peaceful, joyful condition of trusting and rejoicing in the Lord. That is the condition of mind of those whom the Lord will make a light to the people among whom they are established.
