Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
The psalm that contains this call gives instruction in the ways of the Lord and urges the expression of the divine image in thought and deed while the Lord refines and purifies the heart, mind, and life. Rejoicing in the Lord and praising Him are fitting and comely for the righteous and upright. That fitness belongs especially to worship in the congregation, where the upright are not to remain silent from custom or fashion but are to praise and give thanks freely.
Such thanksgiving is for God's goodness and mercy, including freedom from sin and the opportunity to live for His glory. The righteous have reason for this rejoicing and praise because they are redeemed through Christ's precious blood and will soon be saved with everlasting salvation.
