The Lord brings the counsel, plans and devices of the nations and peoples to nothing and makes human schemes fail. At Babel this is seen in God's sovereign power laying low works built from human pride, where human counsel fails. The Lord overturns the plans of wicked people who plot against His people, and though their purposes may appear complicated and threatening He devises ways to frustrate them and bring their counsels to confusion. He frustrates even carefully devised plans of the wicked in order to protect His people and advance His own cause despite opposing schemes.
In contrast, His own counsel and purposes endure and stand forever through every generation, and human schemes cannot overturn them. No human schemes and confederacies can make His counsel ineffectual. For this reason people need not be dismayed by the judgments or accusations of others. The world's schemes lead those who follow them toward ruin, and wealth accumulated for selfish purposes will be consumed in the fires of the last days.
