Psalms 33:19

To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

The eye of God rests upon those who fear Him and hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine. He watches over those who revere Him and trust His mercy, rescuing them from death and preserving and sustaining their lives when hunger and famine come. This protection from death and provision of life in time of need belong to the Lord's care for those who trust in Him. His eye is kept upon the obedient, and in this watching He commends and rewards obedience.

That watchful care gives reason to wait for the Lord as help and shield and to trust in Him for help and protection. Those who fear the Lord and hope in His mercy are assured by this that He watches over them to deliver and sustain them, and are encouraged to trust Him. His promised reward is to rescue from death and to sustain life in hunger. Enoch's translation to heaven without seeing death and Noah's salvation from the flood that deluged the earth stand as examples of this deliverance.
