The Creation of the Universe from DarknessBible World
33:6Psalms 33:6
By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
The heavens and all their host were made by the word of the Lord and the breath of His mouth, whose spoken command brings creation into being. That breath is His creative word and powerful command, for He spoke and it was done, He commanded and it stood fast. Nothing depended on pre-existing matter, for all things material and spiritual came into being at His voice for His purpose and pleasure. Creation came by His direct work when He spoke and commanded, not through long ages of slow development, and the days in which He produced new parts of His work were literal days. The same creative word that brought the worlds into existence still imparts power and begets life, so that each command received into the soul brings the life of the Infinite One and recreates the soul in the image of God. His creative power is so great that by a word He could depopulate the earth, return it to its original state, and raise up a new race of beings.
Creation by God's Word
The heavens with all their assembled hosts were brought into existence by the utterance of the Lord and by the exhalation of His mouth. His spoken command itself effects creation, so that to speak is to produce what did not exist before. The making of the heavens and all their host is therefore the direct work of His powerful word.
That exhalation of His mouth is His creative word and powerful command. He spoke and issued command, and by that commanding things were brought into being. What He commanded not only appeared but was made to stand fast.
This is the authentic biblical account of creation. It discloses the power that laid the foundation of the earth. The same power stretched out the heavens and formed all their hosts by His word.
Doctrine and Application
The heavens with all their host were brought into existence by spoken command and by breath, and creation depended on no pre-existing matter. All things, both material and spiritual, came into being at divine voice and command and stood before God at His voice. They were made for His purpose and pleasure, brought into being by His command and made to stand fast.
Together with the next verse, this shows that creation came about when God spoke and commanded through direct divine work, not through long ages of slow development. The days of creation were literal days, each marking the production of a new part of His work.
The word that brought the worlds into existence possesses creative energy that still imparts power and begets life. Each command is a promise which, when accepted and received into the soul, brings with it the life of the Infinite One. That life transforms human nature and recreates the soul in the image of God. So great is this creative power that by a word He could depopulate the earth, return it to its original state, and raise up a new race of beings.
