He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Though the righteous suffer many afflictions, the Lord preserves them, keeping all their bones so that not one is broken. This keeping belongs to the wider assurance that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, saves the contrite in heart, redeems His servants, and leaves none who trust in Him desolate. In its fullest sense the promise prophesied about Christ, that none of His bones would be broken.
Jesus died suddenly and supernaturally soon, which seemed a great mystery, while the two crucified with Him were still alive. At the crucifixion the soldiers broke the legs of the two men crucified with Him to hasten their death, but they did not break the legs of Jesus because He was already dead, being restrained from marring His limbs. Instead, after His death a soldier pierced His side with a spear, from which blood and water flowed, yet His bones were not broken.
His unbroken bones also fulfilled the Passover law requiring the sacrifice to be perfect and whole with no bone broken, showing He was the Lamb of God offered whole.
