Psalms 35:10

All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

The psalm that holds this declaration opens from a place of deep need and moves toward triumph and settled confidence in God. Its cry for deliverance is an appeal to divine justice rather than an outburst of personal vindictiveness or a longing for revenge. In prophetic vision it opens Christ's inner life in His intense struggle with the enemy, making known what He felt under suffering and temptation. That inner record reaches beyond the triumphant outward events set forth in the Gospels to show His heart in conflict.

The declaration stands among the Bible's promises to the poor. It brings encouragement to those who lack this world's goods by assuring them that the Lord delivers the poor from one too strong for him. It likewise assures the poor and needy of rescue from him who would spoil them.
