Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
Psalm 35 stands among David's songs that grew out of his life amid treacherous foes and that express his trust in God's power and goodness. The call to take hold of shield and buckler and to stand up for help is a plea for God to act in justice, not an outburst of personal disposition or a desire for revenge. It teaches confidence in God with assurance that evil will ultimately be overthrown and good will triumph.
