Psalms 35:20

For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.

Enemies described are those who refuse to speak peace and instead plot deceitful schemes against the quiet and peaceful ones dwelling in the land. Taken as part of the prophetic portrayal of Christ's experience, this opposition discloses the hostility and peril surrounding him in his inward conflict with the enemy. The psalm in which this description stands is an exhibition of divine justice rather than an expression of personal vindictiveness or desire for revenge.
