An Angel With a Sword Shields David from Attackersby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 35:5

Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

The Hebrew word roo-agh in the verse carries the sense of wind, picturing the wicked as chaff blown away before it. The prayer is an expression of God's justice rather than David's personal disposition or desire for revenge. The comparison of the wicked to chaff driven before the wind illustrates their complete destruction, for they are burned up like chaff and stubble with no power able to prevent their end. The verse belongs to a prophetic word-picture of Christ's inner experience as He faced life-and-death struggles with the enemy, revealing how He suffered under temptation and can therefore help those who are tempted. That same image of chaff driven before the wind applies to the capitalists' attempt to rule the masses by force, whose tactics will be swept away.
