Psalms 35:8

Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

The verse is a petition for an adversary to be overtaken by ruin suddenly and without forewarning. It is a petition for him to be caught in the hidden trap of his own making. It is a petition for him to fall into the very destruction he meant to bring upon another. Such language declares divine justice rather than private spite or a thirst for retaliation. The whole psalm prophetically discloses the inward life of Christ when locked in mortal conflict with the foe, showing what he felt while enduring suffering and temptation.
