Psalms 36:5

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

God's mercy stands in the heavens, and His faithfulness reaches to the clouds. The Lord's mercy extends to the heavens and His faithfulness to the clouds, belonging to a wider portrayal of righteousness, judgments, preservation, and lovingkindness that gives reason for trust. That heavenly height reveals a care that is immense and exalted, reaching beyond human measure. Its vastness and dependability are the measure of His watchful love toward those who trust Him.

The declaration of mercy and faithfulness stands together with righteousness firm as the great mountains and judgments vast and deep as the great deep or sea. With them are joined preservation of life and excellent lovingkindness. Those who trust find refuge under His wings and drink of the river of His pleasures. With Him is the fountain of life, and in His light light is seen, and this is why the children of men take refuge and trust in Him.

That refuge under His wings is Christ's own longing to gather and shelter people under His care, as a hen shelters her chicks.
