The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
The Lord knows the days of the upright, watching over their lives and all their circumstances. Their inheritance shall endure forever, without end. Taken together with the next verse, this shows that His care holds firm even in hardship, so that the upright will not be put to shame in evil times and will have enough to satisfy them even in days of famine. Shem illustrates this promise, for his respectful honoring of his father was richly rewarded in an illustrious line of holy descendants given to him.
