Psalms 37:19

They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

In connection with what goes before it, the promise shows that God knows the days of the upright and secures their inheritance forever. To the upright and obedient and righteous it is pledged that they will not be put to shame when evil times of trouble and distress come. When famine days arrive they will be satisfied, meaning they will be sustained and fed so that they have what they need and are not left without provision. This gives ground for daily confidence that God provides day by day for His faithful people.

In the final conflict, when earthly support is cut off and the earth is wasted with famine, God's people will still be fed and made full. Fleeing to Jesus brings the full satisfaction promised, and even if God's children suffer for lack of food or clothing, that hardship does not separate them from God. The promise assures those who sacrifice for God of His care in hardship, so that even in famine they will have what they need while the wicked around them may perish for lack of bread. Their trust is not misplaced, because the same God who cared for Elijah will sustain His self-sacrificing children.
