Psalms 39:10

Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

The verse is a plea for God to lift a painful affliction that is pictured as a blow struck by His own hand, because the force of that stroke has worn down and exhausted the one who bears it. Affliction is such a corrective blow from God, laid upon the wrongdoer in love and mercy to awaken him to the danger of persisting in transgression. When flesh wastes away under it, that wasting points to habits and practices out of harmony with the laws of human life, showing the bodily result of a course at variance with how life was made to operate.

The verse also prophetically discloses the inner experience of Christ, opening a window into His suffering and His struggles with the enemy. In it is seen how He felt under trial, so that His tried heart becomes the measure by which tempted souls can know He understands their conflict and is able to succor them.
