Psalms 40:10

I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

God's righteousness, faithfulness, salvation, lovingkindness and truth are not to be hidden within the heart but openly declared to the great congregation of gathered people. Walking with God through constant conflict and simple faith produces thorough conversion that is not kept private, because real godliness is diffusive and communicative. Those who know His goodness speak from the heart as personal testimony, so that others may hear what He has done and come to know His goodness for themselves.

Those who love God and are converted both enjoy His favor and desire by word and example to lead others toward humble obedience and consecration. This is the opposite course from the blind Pharisees, whose sin remains. The same open witness answers hostile and accusing speech by singing of God's works and proclaiming these truths in the great congregation.

Even in suffering pain without being forsaken, the verse means keeping the mind on God's promises as a free gift to erring people rather than what is deserved. Comfort is found in the assurance of His presence during long, restless nights of pain, by trusting One whose wisdom keeps Him from mistake and whose goodness keeps Him from harm. Health is expected to be restored in order to speak His praise publicly in the congregation of the saints, while despondency and gloom are refused.
