Psalms 42:4

When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

Remembering former worship with the multitude in the house of God with the voice of joy and praise can move a person to pour out the soul before God. That pouring out of the soul is earnest, deep longing for God in heartfelt communion with Him. This earnest longing is what true prayer is. It is more than spoken devotion, for true prayer engages the soul. Engaging the soul in this way affects the life.
