Psalms 42:6
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
The verse describes a soul distressed and weighed down inwardly within itself. In that cast-down condition the soul turns its thoughts back to remember God. This remembrance of God in the midst of trouble becomes a source of hope. It takes the form of urging itself to hope on, with confidence that it will yet praise Him as its help and its God.
Even when feeling prostrated and forsaken, the sufferer is not truly friendless, because God is present. Distress is thus joined with hope in the cheering light of the Saviour's countenance.
