Psalms 45:1
My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
A heart filled with good matter concerning the king makes the tongue fluent and ready like a skilled writer's pen, giving freedom in speaking that feeds hungry hearers, as seen when telling of the inheritance of the saints to an attentive congregation that eagerly receives every word. Christ's tongue was like a ready writer's pen because He was Himself the treasure house of knowledge that supplied Him with words and material for His work. He gathered that knowledge from nature by studying plants and animals as well as human life, and by parables and illustrations drawn from what people could see He made truth plain to the unlearned.
Those who could not learn truth from books could learn it from nature under His teaching of God's living word. His power of speech drew the people to Him and aroused the jealousy of the priests and rulers. His knowledge served a compassionate purpose, as He spoke with sympathy to burdened people and taught them about God's love, kindness, and goodness. When a person surrenders fully to God, the Holy Spirit can guide the tongue like a ready writer's pen, enabling the person to understand the Spirit's inspiration and to give Bible teaching that meets the spiritual hunger of its hearers.
The tongue becomes such a pen when the Holy Spirit uses the person and speaks through the human agent as life and voice. Advocates of truth can therefore afford to be fair and pleasant with no sharpness, railing accusation, taunting, retaliation, or mixture of self, since it is not for the person to use the Holy Spirit but for the Holy Spirit to use the person. Those who love God are given ready and fluent speech for missionary work as His agents to feed both the sheep and the lambs. With busy hands and sensitive hearts joined to personal labor and example, especially for the poor and oppressed, they use that readiness to win the unconcerned and unbelieving and to inspire fellow believers with a missionary spirit by leading the way and inviting them to come along rather than merely sending them onward.
