Psalms 47:4

He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.

God chooses the inheritance for his people, for Israel, for them. Their inheritance is the excellency or glory of Jacob, the people whom he loved. Selah marks a pause for reflection.

After Judah's deliverance from its enemies, the verse joins praise for God's victory with trust in his rule over the nations and care for his people. He determines the inheritance of his people and gives them the land as their cherished excellence because he loves them.

The goodly heritage and pleasant places promised to those he loves are Jacob's excellency applied to the future joy and secure possession of those who hold fast their crown. The verse belongs among the final psalms read with the close of Revelation, with Revelation 5 and 6. It points to Paradise restored and God's children safe at home at the end of the path of righteousness through the vale of sin to the everlasting regions beyond.

If a person has asked God to choose their inheritance, dissatisfaction with their place, circumstances, or provision is inconsistent with that trust and gives reason to be grateful.
