Father Shows His Son the Towers of Zionby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 48:13

Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.

The summons is to mark Zion's bulwarks well and to give thoughtful attention to her palaces, with the express purpose that what is observed may be declared to the generation to come. It is a call for deliberate inspection rather than casual notice, so that the strength and beauty discerned can be preserved in testimony for posterity. In the lines around it, God is made known within those palaces as a secure refuge for His people. He is presented there as their own God and as their unfailing guide even unto death.

The charge to tell the following generation finds its sequel in the crucifixion of Christ at Jerusalem. That event was beheld in the city by representatives gathered from many nations. Their eyewitness report then carried the tidings of what had occurred outward to distant lands.
