Psalms 48:5

They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.

The ones who looked and were amazed, then alarmed and rushed off, were kings and other rulers beholding the scene of Christ's death on the cross. They gazed upon that suffering and death, marvelled at what they witnessed, were filled with trouble, and hastened away. They trembled as they looked upon the crucifixion and hurried from the sight.

These were rulers and influential representatives of many nations and lands, assembled at Jerusalem because it was the Passover season. Because men from distant countries were present for the feast, the crucifixion was witnessed by those who would return to many lands. Strangers who had seen it carried the news of Christ's death and its solemn impact with them throughout the world to far-off places.
