Dying Rich Man Beside His Open Chest of Goldby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 49:6

They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

To trust in wealth and to boast in the multitude of riches is futile, for it cannot secure what matters most. No person can by riches redeem another person, nor can anyone pay to God a ransom for a soul. The redemption of the soul is too precious to be provided by wealth, so reliance on possessions fails at the point of greatest need. Such reliance on possessions belongs with selfishness and love of the world.
