Psalms 5:8

Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

The verse is a prayer asking the Lord to lead the speaker in His own righteousness because of enemies, and to make His way straight and clear before the speaker's face. It takes the side of righteousness in speech, in contrast to workers of iniquity, liars, and bloody and deceitful people whose mouth has no faithfulness, whose inward part is wickedness, whose throat is an open sepulcher, and who flatter with the tongue. Amid such deceit and wickedness, trust in God is a reason for joy, for He defends those who trust Him and blesses the righteous with favor as a shield. It is a comforting assurance and reliable promise for people who are sick, dying, or in distress. It promises that God will make the path plain before those who remain humble and are willing to bear burdens in His work.
