Asaph Plays Cymbals Facing Zion at Sunriseby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 50:2

Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.

Out of Zion, complete and perfect in beauty, God shines forth. That place of perfect beauty is the sanctuary where the visible sign of the divine presence dwelt between the cherubim, and at the time in view the ark and that presence remained in the tabernacle at Jerusalem before the temple built by Solomon. The shining belongs to God speaking and calling the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down, and coming openly and without silence in majesty to judge His people. In that coming He calls heaven and earth together, while the heavens declare His righteousness because God Himself is judge.

The coming includes gathering His people, the saints who entered covenant with Him by sacrifice. The scene describes the glorious return of Christ and the beginning of His reign of righteousness. In that context merely possessing and proclaiming His covenant while refusing His instruction brings judgment.

The greatness of God shining from Zion in perfect beauty will at the final great day expose the terrible loss of those working on the side of Satan in anarchy, war and strife, when they see how many souls were lost because they did not take their stand under the rule of Christ. As divine light once shone from Mount Zion, making it a source of light, so the light of truth later spread from Wittenberg to distant lands. The declaration is to be presented to urge guarded, wise and encouraging speech and conduct like Christ that will be able to stand in the judgment.
