The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:
Psalm 52:6 looks forward to the last great day, when the man who stood in selfish independence, trusting in himself, is destroyed forever. On that day the righteous witness God's own act of judgment against him. What they see is God taking him away, plucking him out of his dwelling, and rooting him out of the land of the living.
This is done because he loved evil more than good, and lying more than righteousness, and devouring words of deceit. It is done because he did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in wickedness. It is done also because, by giving himself to anarchy and war and strife and by failing to stand under the rule of Christ, he caused souls to be lost. Seeing his fearful loss, the righteous fear and laugh at him. In contrast to him, they are those who chose God as their guide and who trust in His mercy forever.
