Psalms 52:7

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

The verse describes the man who chooses selfish independence instead of making God his strength, trusting in himself. He trusts in the abundance of his riches and strengthens himself in his wickedness. By this course he works on the side of Satan and refuses to stand under the rule of Christ, causing loss of souls through anarchy, war, and strife.

God destroys such a man forever, plucking him out of his dwelling and rooting him out of the land of the living. At the last great day the righteous will see his end and fear and laugh at him as the man who would not make God his strength. Failing to make God one's strength by trusting in human ability and talent instead leaves God's people spiritually weak and faint.
