Psalms 57:4

My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

The psalm containing this verse was composed while David was seeking refuge from Saul in the cave of Adullam amid continuing danger and uncertainty. The lions, those set on fire, and sons of men are railing accusers whose cruel words wound like weapons. Their teeth are compared to spears and arrows, and their tongue to a sharp sword.

Those facing such verbal attacks should follow David's example by looking to God. They are to refuse to lose heart, and to trust in Him day by day.
