For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
In death and in the grave there is no remembrance of God and no thanksgiving or praise to Him. Death is a state of unconsciousness, silence and inactivity. The grave is not a place of conscious life of worship and praise in heaven, but a place of silence where no such worship is offered. Praise, thanks and testimony to God belong to the living, not to the dead. This is shown by Hezekiah's praise while he was alive, agreeing that the living praise God while those who go to the grave cannot give Him thanks there. The dead, including the righteous dead, remain unconscious in the grave until the resurrection.
