Psalms 60:12

Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

Through God His people act valiantly, courageously and prevailingly, accomplishing good and achieving success, for He Himself treads down their enemies and overcomes all opposition. To do valiantly is to act with courage through God, who gives victory over enemies rather than leaving His people to their own power. This valiant action comes by depending on and relying on God's strength for help and victory. Human help and support cannot take God's place, and neither self-confidence, human wisdom nor self-sufficient righteousness can be relied on, for human help in trouble is vain. God's enabling strength is found in close connection with Jesus and His perfect character. The strength to act valiantly comes through Christ even when people are weak in themselves. Because Christ enables it, the church in faith can advance the truth and save souls, doing courageous work and overcoming opposition through God. God enables this valiant life by moving upon hearts by the Holy Spirit and adding daily to the faith of those who are being saved. This strength is shown in loyal service to God and fellow believers. It turns from envy, unkind thoughts, self-importance, self-righteousness and self-sufficient living, and fills life with kindness, self-forgetfulness and service to others. The verse's promise applies to comforting, encouraging and strengthening fellow members of Christ's church. In ministry many can thus do valiant work through God and see rich results from their labor, with courage and success through Him who overcomes their enemies.
