Joab Raises a Banner Before David on the Salt Flatsby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 60:4

Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

God has given a banner to those who fear and serve Him, to be displayed and held aloft because of the truth. That banner is the standard of His truth and represents the truth itself. To display it means to reflect the light received and to proclaim the truth in a way that does not provoke others.

He gives this banner to workers whom He has corrected and strengthened after their mistakes, so that they can go forward and continue their work. It is to be lifted in places where the truth has not yet been proclaimed, with means invested to carry it to those places. While His people bear that banner and remain loyal to Him, He exalts them before their enemies, but when they turn to self-exaltation and uphold powers or principles opposed to Him, they bring disaster and defeat upon themselves.
