David Rests Against the Rock in Trustby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 62:6

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

He alone is rock and salvation and defense, the secure foundation and sure source of safety and deliverance and protection and strength and refuge and firm security, so that the one who trusts in him will not be shaken or moved but stands steadfast. Confidence and expectation are therefore to rest in him rather than in what people can do for themselves. The call is to wait on him and trust him rather than try to see what the future holds, with his guidance as the ground of confidence. In service to Christ this reliance on God takes the place of individual self-assertion.

The lesson is to pour out sorrows and needs and troubles to him rather than look to another person for help, since he alone is the rock and defense on whom a person can depend without being moved. He is refuge and comfort through severe illness and pain, and trust in him sustains hope when hope seems dim. Trust in him and in the presence of Jesus can remain firm and unshaken through trials and affliction and even the crucible. That trust gives courage to be cheerful and to let confidence be seen by others.
